PR-TF 83 Granadilla-Paisaje Lunar
PR-TF 83.1 Las Vegas-Paisaje Lunar
The summits landscape of Granadilla de Abona is a place of extraordinary natural beauty. Its volcanic nature and the Canarian pine forest with its rich biodiversity add to the spectacular panoramic views of the south of Tenerife.
The historic Camino de Chasna was the main trade route between the south and north of the island until the mid-20th century.
The municipality’s summits extend along a steep slope from 1,200 to 2,715 metres above sea level at Montaña Guajara, on the southern border of the Teide National Park.
The two footpaths that make up this scenic route are former connections of the historic Camino de Chasna with the villages of Granadilla and Las Vegas. The Camino de Chasna is a historic route that ran from one side of the island of Tenerife to the other, linking the northern and southern regions and vice versa.
These paths were used for trade but also for transhumance, from the Guanche period until the 1980s, when the last goatherds were expelled from the area of Las Cañadas del Teide.
The route ends in the spectacular Lunar Landscape of Granadilla de Abona, in the place known as Los Escurriales, a curious and fragile formation of fairy chimneys caused by the water and wind erosion of a layer of volcanic pumice over thousands of years.
The Corona Forestal Natural Park, our largest protected area, covers 46,613 hectares, of which 4,000 belong to Granadilla de Abona.
The Canary Island pine forest is a vital ecosystem in the fight against climate change, playing an essential role in the capture of carbon dioxide and the conservation of our aquifers.
Starting from Granadilla, the PR-TF83 footpath connects with the Cruz de Tea and then ascends through the area of Los Malejos, just in front of the Montaña Colorada Natural Monument, towards the summits of the island.
If you opt for Las Vegas, the ascent is continuous along the PR-TF83.1 footpath, following the route of the volcanic flow of the Las Arenas volcano, located on the southern slope of Montaña Guajara, which modified the previous relief of the whole area.
